How To Track Packages From China When Dropshipping
Is your tracking number not working? Are your customers angry? Learn the secret of “two tracking numbers” and the best way to track dropshipping orders from China.
Picture this: You finally find a winning product. You spend $1,000 on Facebook ads. You get 50 orders in one day. You are so excited!
You find an agent on WhatsApp who promises a very cheap price. You send them $500 to fulfill your orders.
And then… silence. The agent blocks your number. They never ship the products. Now, you have 50 angry customers. You have to give them all a refund out of your own pocket. If you do not, your customers will call their banks, and Stripe or PayPal will ban your store forever. Game over.
Dropshipping is a great way to make money, but it is full of sharks. In this guide, we will expose the top 5 dropshipping scams in 2026, and show you exactly how to test a supplier before you send them a single dollar.
This is the most common trick in China. Scammers use it to steal your profit slowly.
The Promise: The agent says they will use a fast, premium shipping line (like YunExpress) that takes 6-10 days. They charge you $8 per package.
The Scam: The agent actually ships your product using cheap, slow postal mail (like China Post) which takes 30 days and only costs $3.
The Result: The agent secretly keeps your extra $5. Your customers wait a month for their items and leave angry 1-star reviews.
How to Avoid It: Always check the tracking numbers they give you on 17TRACK.net. If the number takes 5 days to show any updates, they are using a cheap, slow line.
When you buy from AliExpress, you probably think you are buying from a big factory. You are wrong. 90% of AliExpress sellers are just guys sitting in their bedrooms. They do not have a warehouse. They do not have stock.
The Scam: When you pay them, they take your money and buy the item from a real factory. But what if the real factory is out of stock?
The Result: The middleman will lie to you. They will give you a fake tracking number just to keep you quiet. Three weeks later, your customer gets nothing.
How to Avoid It: Never use AliExpress if you are getting more than 5 orders a day. Find a real private fulfillment center that has its own warehouse.
This nightmare happens when you start scaling and buying bulk inventory to save money.
The Scam: You find a supplier with a super low product price. You buy 1,000 units and send them to the supplier’s warehouse so they can pack and ship them for you.
The Result: The next day, the supplier emails you: “Oh, shipping prices just went up today. You need to pay us $2 more per package, or we will not ship them.” Your stock is now held hostage. You cannot get it back. You have to pay the ransom.
How to Avoid It: Never send bulk inventory to a random WhatsApp agent. Only work with a registered, legal company that gives you transparent, fixed prices.
You see a supplier selling “Nike” shoes or “Disney” toys for only $10. You think: “Wow, I can sell these for $50 and make a huge profit!” Stop right there.
The Scam: These are 100% fake (counterfeit) products.
The Result: When the package reaches the USA or Europe, Customs will open it and destroy it. Worse, Shopify will scan your website, see the fake Nike shoes, and delete your store. PayPal will freeze your money forever because selling fakes is illegal.
How to Avoid It: Never sell famous brands. Stick to plain, unbranded items and build your own “Private Label” brand.
How you pay the supplier is just as important as who you pay.
The Scam: The supplier says they will give you a 10% discount, but you must pay them using Cryptocurrency (USDT/Bitcoin) or Western Union.
The Result: Once you send Crypto or Western Union, the money is gone forever. You cannot call your bank to get it back. Scammers love Crypto because it is untraceable.
How to Avoid It: If an agent insists on Crypto, block them immediately.
Do not trust a picture of a “Business License.” Anyone can use Photoshop. Before you send money to a new agent, force them to pass these two tests:
Test 1: The “Video Call” Test Scammers hide behind text messages. Ask the agent: “Can we do a quick 2-minute WhatsApp video call right now? I just want to say hi and see your warehouse.”
If they say: “My camera is broken” or “I am not in the office today,” run away. They are a scammer.
A real fulfillment center will gladly turn on the camera and show you their workers and shelves.
Test 2: The “Today’s Date” Photo If they say they have the product in their warehouse, make them prove it. Tell them: “Take a picture of the product sitting next to a piece of paper with today’s date and my name written on it.” If they cannot do this in 10 minutes, they do not have the product.
If you already sent money and the agent blocked you, do not waste time crying. You must save your store immediately.
Refund Your Customers First: This hurts, but you must refund your buyers today. If your buyers call their credit card companies and file chargebacks, Stripe will ban you. You can start over if you lose $500. You cannot start over if you lose your payment gateway.
Call Your Bank: If you paid the scammer with a credit card or PayPal, call them immediately. File a dispute for “Item Not Received.” Your bank will fight the scammer to get your money back.
Switch to a Professional Partner: You learned your lesson. Cheap, random agents are the most expensive mistake you can make.
